The pirts tradition is a Latvian jewel and a precious resource that we cherish and wish to maintain for our children and grandchildren to be able to practice and enjoy.
A great collective effort was put into developing the common understanding of pirts practice in 2022. This resulted in the decision by the Latvian Terminology Commission on 12 April 2022 to confirm the key terms relating to pirts, agreed by pirts professionals on a national level. LTC Decision in Latvian here.
In order to preserve the pirts tradition, strengthen its value and ensure its sustainability, an application for the pirts tradition to be inscribed on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Latvia (NKM) will be filed in early June 2023, pertaining to the entire territory of Latvia.
We invite every pirts professional and pirts lover to support and participate in our efforts to help move things forward and to eventually feel rewarded for the job well done.
We invite you to take part in our upcoming in-person events:
- 17 May The Congress of Latvian Pirts Professionals in Tērvete.
